![]() I took the entire summer of 1976 travelling to museums, historic sites, & archaeological excavations to photograph images of Native-related material culture. To respond to the scarcity of Native Studies curriculum materials, I developed several 35 mm colour slide presentations. During the mid-1970s, I taught high school in a rather rare Native Studies programme for Kelsey School Division in The Pas, MB. I was later hired to work in the area of my primary interest in Native ethnology on the curatorial side, first as a collections cataloguer, & subsequently as term Assistant Curator of Native Ethnology.įollowing early reading about Canadian Aboriginal peoples in elementary & secondary school, I had focussed my post-secondary academic work on Canadian Native cultures & histories. Thistle’s museum career began as a volunteer and later paid docent at the then Manitoba Museum of Man & Nature (MMMN, now known as the Manitoba Museum) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
